4 Ways to Show Gratitude to Your Loved Ones
It’s a perfect time of year to let those around you know what they mean to you. If this isn’t your strong suit (honestly, we could all be better at this), here are a few tips to get you started.
Write a note. This doesn’t have to be on fancy paper or a special thank you note. It can be as short and as simple as “Thank you for putting up with me.” We recommend you write it with your best penmanship. Somehow, handwritten notes just seem to be more personal. Put it somewhere your loved one is sure to find it, but isn’t super obvious, such as a purse or under the pillow. I promise your loved one will feel the love!
Just say thank you. Out loud. Take that loved one into your arms and look them directly in the eye. Tell them what it is about them that keeps you going. Be as specific as possible. It may feel a little bit awkward at first, but it will totally be worth it. Promise!
Spend some time doing something your loved one enjoys. Not really feeling the video games your loved one can’t seem to live without? Surprise them by asking if there’s a multiplayer option and then let them school you in the art. Go to a concert. Listen to an audiobook. It may just surprise you how much fun you both have.
Is there a task your loved one dreads, but must do anyway? Help them out by surprising them with a little service. Wash those dishes, get the oil changed in the car, watch the kids while they blow off some steam. It may not be your favorite 20 minutes of the day, but the look on your loved ones face will make it worth it.
Though how your loved ones show their gratitude in return shouldn’t be the purpose of sharing your gratitude, it may just surprise you.
