4 Ways to Relax During the Busiest Time of the Year

The holidays are stressful! If you feel like you’re about to snap, here are a few suggestions to help you get back into the festive feel.

#1 – Watch a favorite movie.

Nothing is better than snuggling up on the couch with a tried and true classic movie you know you love. Give yourself the time to do this at least one time this month. Whether it’s with a significant other or on your own, make it something YOU want to watch. Avoid the binge watching of episodes though. You and I both know how we feel eight episodes in: like a slug. And feeling like a slug this month is not allowed.

#2 – Take a few extra days off work.

I know! It’s the BUSIEST time of the year, especially if you work in retail or shipping. But, if you can, try to take a few extra days off close to the holidays. It will give you a chance to decompress and truly enjoy time with family or just the feeling of the season. Be smart with your time off though. Try swearing off social media to focus on the here and now. I promise you’ll be glad you did.

#3 – Learn to say no.

Have about a million different directions you’re being pulled? Does your family and your significant other’s family all have expectations? What about your local community? Church? I do think spending time with family is one of the best things about the holidays. So, yes you should try to make it to the big stuff, but if it’s something where you won’t really be missed, skip it. It will help keep your stress level manageable and able to focus on those you actually live with.

#4 – Keep a good life-balance.

There are a lot of things calling for your attention this month. Because of that it can be easy to lose sight of a good life-balance. The gym can start to seem less important and those doughnuts can start to look mighty fine. Try to maintain a good balance throughout the month. Enjoy those treats but not too many. Hit the gym by all means, but try not to be psychotic about it.

The holidays can be stressful. Remember to take some time for yourself and those you love. If you do, the season will be much brighter!
